Ross: Prospect of FG/FF coalition is ‘chilling’

Independent Alliance spokesperson Shane Ross is claiming that a Fine Gael/Fianna Fáil coalition is “a hidden threat hovering over the General Election”.

Deputy Ross has said that such a coalition would be the most right wing government in the history of the State.

He claims “cronyism would mushroom” if the parties join forces.

Enda Kenny and Micheal Martin have both ruled out a coalition, in spite of polls suggesting a Fine Gael/Fianna Fail pact may be the only stable combination after the election.

Statement from Independent Alliance TD Shane Ross in full:

“The threat of a Fine Gael/ Fianna Fáil government now hangs, a hidden threat, hovering over the general election.

“It is the combination that dare not speak its name, denied by both parties but looming large in the horizon.

“The prospect is chilling. Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil would form the most right-wing government in the history of the State. There would be an economic consensus to comfort the insiders.

“Cronyism would mushroom, as the spoils of the electoral battle are shared out with the common culture of rewarding party loyalists.

“The Independent Alliance offers the only credible alternative to a civil war, devils' pact that would ensure politics continues as usual.”
