A 39-year-old Romanian man is facing extradition to the UK for cultivating cannabis plants.
Florin Fodor with an address at St Anne’s Square, Blackrock, Co Dublin, fled England after he admitted producing the drug and having a fake provisional driving license.
Fodor was arrested at his work place after police in Hertfordshire found 40 cannabis plants and sophisticated lighting equipment in the bedroom and loft of a property he rented.
In August 2008, the 39-year-old pleaded guilty to two charges – one was for producing cannabis and another was for possessing a false identity document.
However, he did not turn up to his sentencing hearing the following month and when it was discovered that he’d fled the country, a European Arrest Warrant was issued.
This afternoon he was brought before the High Court in Dublin.
Garda Helen Gillen gave evidence that she’d arrested him at Blackrock Garda station earlier today.
He has been remanded in custody until a bail hearing next Wednesday.
