Revenue Commissioners delighted with ‘exceptional’ property tax compliance

The Revenue Commissioners are praising the public for the "exceptional" rate of compliance with the property tax.

94% have paid last year's tax with 90% complying with the 2014 charge so far.

However, they have given a stark warning to those yet to pay who they claim are "cheating their neighbours".

Revenue collected €38bn in tax last year up by a massive €1.2bn on 2012.

The net take for all the major tax heads including income; excise duty and VAT were all up.

Revenue added its biggest challenge was introducing the property tax.

Revenue is now sounding a warning to those yet to pay either the tax or the household charge.

More than 250,000 households will be targetted for a blitz, with the charge plus interest and penalties to be deducted from their salary.
