Revenue collected almost 10% more tax last year

All of the main taxheads recorded growth with Income Tax up 8.8%, Corporation Tax and VAT up 8.1% and Stamp Duty up 26%.

High levels of timely payment and returns compliance rates were maintained in 2014 and ranged from 99% to 84% depending on case size.

In relation to the Local Property Tax, compliance rates of 96% were achieved last year while this year a rate of 94% has already been achieved.

Speaking at the launch of its Annual Report for 2014. Niall Cody, chairman of the Revenue Commissioners said: "This is a key performance measure for us - we recognise and acknowledge the contribution of individual taxpayers, businesses and tax and customs practitioners in the achievement of these results and the maintenance of a strong voluntary compliance culture."

Mr Cody highlighted the results from Revenue’s compliance programme in 2014 which included over 437,000 compliance interventions yielding over €610m - an increase of 11% over 2013.

Some 889 audits on construction businesses yielded over €35m last year.

Mr Cody also said that Revenue will be recruiting over 400 new staff in 2015 across a diverse range of specialist skills areas such as tax and legal professionals, data analysts, economists and information technology experts.
