A major search is underway for a man who entered the River Shannon in Limerick city tonight.

A major search is underway for a man who entered the River Shannon in Limerick city tonight.

The 28-year-old father of two was seen entering the water at the Shannon Bridge at around 7.30pm.

Gardaí, the Coast Guard helicopter and the fire service are involved in the search.

A team of four divers in two boats attached to Limerick Marine Search and Rescue Service are continuing to comb the river for the man.
