Rescuers continue search for Irish surfer missing in Australia

Rescue efforts are continuing to locate an Irish man who went missing in waters off Byron Bay in Australia on Saturday morning.

The 19-year-old was out surfing with two friends when they got into difficulty - the area is prone to rip tides and dangerous conditions.

Two men, aged 20 and 26, were rescued by volunteers and sustained minor injuries.

There had been several weather warnings issued over the past few days as surfing conditions at Tallow Beach were said to be treacherous.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is in contact with the young man's family.
