Report: 'Irishman' and his wife shot dead in Venezuala

The Department of Foreign Affairs says it is trying to establish if a man shot dead in Venezuela was Irish.

Local media reports suggest the man and his wife were shot dead after their car broke down on a highway.

The man's wife is a well-known Venezuelan TV actress, 29-year-old Monica Spear Mootz.

It is reported that the couple's five-year-old daughter suffered minor injuries to her leg and was taken to hospital.

It is believed that the motive for the murder was the theft of the car.

Spear first came to fame with her part in the successful soap opera, "Mi Prima Ciela" and was one of the most successful actresses in Venezuela.
