Report claims Dublin renting prices have risen by fifth in three years

Over the past three years rental prices in Dublin have increased by almost 20%, according to Daft.ie.

A sharp rise in the cost of renting and long queues at viewings are being put down to supply and demand.

In contrast, figures released in today's Daft.ie Rental Report show that elsewhere in the country rents are almost static with a 2% increase in many rural areas since 2011.

Economist at Trinity College Dublin and Author of the Daft.ie Report, Ronan Lyons, says the downturn in the construction sector is to blame.
