Met Éireann is warning of severe frost tonight as the freezing conditions continue.

Temperatures have plummeted since yesterday as a result of a weather system bringing a cold air flow from Scandinavia.

The cold weather is expected to continue until next weekend.

Forecaster with Met Éireann John Eagleton said next week would bring drier conditions, but temperatures will drop below freezing on most nights.

"The frost at night will be severe," he said, adding the showers will die out tomorrow. They will return on Sunday and Monday, but it looks like staying dry for the rest of next week.
