Renua's calling for a radical overhaul of political funding - so that parties cannot keep hold of money for politicans who are no longer members.

The call comes from Senator Paul Bradford, who has said Fine Gael still receives state funding for himself and Renua's three TDs, even though they were all kicked out of the party.

Senator Bradford has said it is unfair that parties are able to retain funding meant for other people: “The taxpayer is still handing over, hundreds of thousands of euros per annum to our former party in respect of the five people who were kicked out of the party.

“It wasn’t that we were getting that money individually, the party still gets it on our behalf, though we are no longer in the party so, things like that need to be addressed.”
