Rabbitte still considering pylons in rural areas

The Minister for Energy is reconsidering allowing pylons to be built in scenic rural areas.

Pat Rabbitte has held a meeting with other members of the Labour party behind closed doors this evening.

Afterwards Senator John Whelan said Minister Rabbitte was open to stopping power lines being built in scenic areas.

`"The Minister did reassure us that he did share our concerns about some of the routes being proposed, and the impact that they would have on some of the most beautiful scenic spots in the country.

He did say to use that he though that would not be acceptable."

Over 100 members attended the meeting, appealing to the minister to block plans by Eirgrid to build new power lines over ground.
