The Government has no immediate plans sell off the energy networks in a bid to raise money for the economy, it was confirmed today.

Colm McCarthy's An Bord Snip report called for the sale of non-strategic state assets in order to help raise €2bn.

Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Pat Rabbitte said that even McCarthy says it would not be a good idea to sell Bord Gáis or ESB Electric Ireland in the current climate.

"McCarthy himself is clear that he would not dispose of the strategic networks," said Minister Rabbitte.
