Purse stolen after woman in her 80s burgled while at home

A woman in her 80s has been robbed at her home in Derry.

It happened at Glencaw Park during the early hours of this morning.

Police said the intruder fled after seeing the pensioner in her bedroom.

A purse containing an undisclosed sum of money was stolen from a downstairs room and was later found empty in the nearby Cashel Hill Park.

Detective Constable Emma Marshall said officers were also investigating reports that a man had been seen banging at the front door of a nearby property just before the break-in at 3.50am.

She said: "I would like to hear from anyone with information about this crime or who may have witnessed any unusual activity, either in Glencaw Park, Cashel Hill Park or any of the surrounding areas of Gallaigh."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
