Protesters call for Government to reverse home care cuts

A protest has taken place outside Government Buildings this afternoon to object to the HSE's plans to cut €10m from home care services.

The protest, organised by people with disabilities, their personal assistants and their families, say the decision to reduce services from people will prevent them from living independently in their own homes.

They are vowing to escalate the protests over the coming days.

The protesters also called on the Junior Minister with responsibility for the disabled to support their cause.

"Kathleen Lynch should be here, telling us why she is letting disabled people ... suffer in the future," said one protester.

"Why isn't she here fighting ... these cuts? Is she afraid to?

"She said she wanted to give us good services, she asked us come and tell her what we needed, and now they're slashing, slashing, slashing and we not be able to survive, some of us, in our own homes."
