Gardaí are investigating the suspicious death of a man in Limerick.

The man, 21, was pronounced dead at University Hospital Limerick this morning after he was found in a flat in the city in a critical condition.

Gardaí suspect the man's death may be drugs related, but a spokesman said they could not confirm this until after toxicology tests were performed following a post mortem.

Gardaí were alerted to the flat, located on Steamboat Quay, at around 6am. A spokesman added the man is from Limerick.

He was with a group of others in the flat at the time and Gardaí were alerted by a third party at the flat when the man became unresponsive. Gardaí are believed to have spoken to a number of people who were in the flat at the time.

A post mortem is due to take place at University Hospital Limerick. Gardaí at Henry Street are investigating.
