The new President has asked for his salary to be cut by almost a quarter (23.5%).

The new President has asked for his salary to be cut by almost a quarter (23.5%).

Michael D Higgins has written to the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform to request a voluntary reduction in pay.

It is understood his new salary will be in the region of a €250,000.

This reflects plans the Government has to introduce legislation to reduce the President's salary from the current level of €325,000.
