Ferry crossings, road conditions and phone lines have all been affected by adverse weather conditions across the country this afternoon.

A lightening strike at a Galway sub station earlier cut power to households in Carraroe, Lettermore and the Aran Islands - but the ESB says full services have now been restored.

Phone cables have been damaged by flooding in Cork, leaving 800 customers in Douglas without services - an Eircom spokesperson says it could be late this evening before repairs are complete.

In Glenamoy, County Mayo, up to 200 customers are experiencing phone outages, and services have been restored to 300 homes in Roscommon that were affected earlier.

The bad weather has forced Irish Ferries and Stena Line to cancel a number of their crossings this afternoon - and on the roads the AA is warning motorists to watch out for debris, slow down and take extreme care.
