Investigations are underway following a collision between a passenger train and a postal van in Co Mayo this morning.

Investigations are underway following a collision between a passenger train and a postal van in Co Mayo this morning.

The small commuter train struck a van at an unmanned level crossing in Ballyvary.

The postman was taken to Mayo General Hospital, where he is said to be a stable condition.

There were six passengers and the driver on board the train at the time, none of whom were injured.

In a statement Iarnrod Eireann says it will investigate this morning’s incident, while the Railway Safety Commission and the Rail Accident Investigation Unit have also been informed.
