A post mortem examination will take place on the body of crime boss Eamon Kelly at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin today.
The 65-year-old convicted criminal was shot dead close to his home on Furry Park Road in Killester yesterday afternoon.
A black Lexus car, which was found behind Clontarf Cricket Club, was thought to have been used by the two men involved in the gun attack.
Gardaí are continuing to question a man in his 30s at Clontarf Garda Station who was arrested near the car.
Gardaí are exploring the possibility that the killing is in retaliation for the murder of dissident republican Alan Ryan.
Superintendent Dave Taylor from the Garda Press Office said that the gun attack happened in a residential area in daylight hours.
"I can assure you that all resources are being directed to investigate this murder," he said.
"Murder is to be condemned at all times and especially in broad daylight, and I can assure you that an Garda Síochána will leave no stone unturned to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice.
"It’s very early in the murder investigation at the moment, and investigators will be looking at all avenues, investigating all leads."
