Poll shows 48% want 8th amendment removed from constitution

The Director of the Iona Institute says we should think long and hard before making any changes to the 8th amendment.

A Newstalk/Red C poll shows that the majority of people are in favour of making changes to the amendment, with 48% saying it should be removed entirely from the constitution.

Almost 80% of people support abortion in the cases of rape or incest, according to the poll.

However David Quinn says we need to consider the full impacts of any changes to abortion law.

"Every single human being, born or unborn, disabled or not, has an absolutely equal right to life.

"If we get rid of the 8th amendment we are saying that some human beings do not have the same right to life as other human beings."
