Plans to swap apartment developments to family homes without planning permission

The Construction Industry Federation is welcoming Government proposals to allow property developers change plans apartments developments into family homes, without the need to reapply for planning permission.

The Sunday Business Post has obtained documents which indicate the Government is considering the move in a bid to increase the supply of family homes, particularly in Dublin.

"We all know that the Dublin housing market has picked up … and yet the supply doesn’t seem to be able to pick up," said CIF Director General Tom Parlon.

"[It's] because of either shortcomings in the planning that will cause major delays, or development levies being totally out of sync form the current market price for houses."
