Plans for directly-elected Dublin Mayor to be re-examined

Plans for people to elect their own Mayor of Dublin could be back on the cards.

The idea was shelved when Fingal County Council voted against it earlier this year.

However Environment Minister Phil Hogan says he is going to re-examine the proposal with the four Dublin Councils.

"I am certainly going to kick-start the process by having early engagement with the four Cathaoirleach and Mayors of the four Dublin authorities in early July," Minister Hogan said.

"I look forward to a constructive process in the future."
