PICS: Vehicles and cash seized as part of nationwide operation targeting Kinahan cartel
The Criminal Assets Bureau and Gardai have launched raids across Dublin and Limerick in a planned operation against a major crime gang.
Approximately €15,000 in cash, as well as several luxury watches and top of the range cars, have been seized so far.
The raids are targeted at Dublin-based members of the notorious Kinahan crime cartel, which also operates out of Spain.
Around 100 gardai assisted the Criminal Assets Bureau as they launched searches at a number of properties across Dublin and Limerick early on Friday morning.
So far, 18 residential premises have been searched and a number of other raids are ongoing.
Along with the 15,000 euro in cash, a number of other items have been seized including a number of Breitling, Rolex and Cartier watches, an Audi Q7, a Mercedes Vito, a VW Golf Mark7 GTD and a Honda Motorcycle.
A Freezing Order has been made in respect of a substantial amount of money in a bank account.
Gardai said a quantity of documents and mobile phones are being examined by investigating officers.
No arrests have been made so far, and the search operation is ongoing.
Gardai have confirmed that the CAB investigation is into a Dublin based Organised Crime Gang.
Speaking today Detective Chief Superintendent Patrick Clavin said: "This CAB investigation into an Organised Crime Gang is continuing, today marks a significant development in the progress of this investigation.
"The Criminal Assets Bureau are relentless in their mission to identify the criminally acquired assets of persons and to deny such people these assets. The motivation of these organised crime gangs is greed for wealth and we will do all we can to deprive them of this wealth".
Eighteen residential premises in Limerick and Dublin have been raided this morning as part of an investigation into a Dublin-based organised crime gang.
Approximately €15,000 cash was seized by the Criminal Assets Bureau and local gardaí, along with a number of watches (Breitling, Rolex, Cartier), an Audi Q7, a Mercedes Vito, a VW Golf Mark7 GTD and a Honda Motorcycle. A freezing order has also been made in respect of a substantial amount of money in a bank account.

A number of national units conducted a search operation in the Dublin 1, Dublin 7, Dublin 11, North County Dublin and Limerick this morning, and more searches are ongoing.
No arrests have been made as yet.
