Part-time teen helpline answered 10,000 calls this year

A helpline for teenagers in Dublin received a record number of calls in June, just three months after its state funding was axed.

'Teenline', based in Tallaght, is only open for 25 hours a week, but volunteers have answered almost 10,000 calls so far this year.

"This year, we've seen a significant drive in calls … we need to work very hard," Director of Teenline Ireland, Judith McLoughlin, told 98FM.

"We're doing a lot of fundraising, a lot of awareness campaigns at the moment to keep the helpline running."
