Pair arrested after man shot dead in row in Dublin

A man and a woman have been arrested after another man was shot dead in the street following a dispute.

Edward O’Connor was murdered after two groups of people were involved in altercations at a roadside in Finglas, north Dublin.

Gardaí believe there had been an earlier row between individuals.

Mr O’Connor, from the Finglas area, was shot in Ballycoolin Road following the confrontation.

The arrested man, in his 20s, and the woman, in her 30s, were detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held for up to seven days.

The shooting took place at 5pm yesterday.

Mr O’Connor was rushed to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown, where he was pronounced dead.

The scene was preserved last night for a technical examination and Ballycoolin Road is expected to be closed for several hours today.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
