The Education Minister says the inclusion of poems by Cathal O Searcaigh in the Leaving Certificate will be addressed by the National Council on Curriculum Assessment.
Mary Hanafin says the fact that students have to write about the poet's life, as well as his work, could cause some problems.
Meanwhile, the Donegal man has issued a statement this evening pledging to support the people of Nepal financially and says he reads with a "heavy heart" the comments about a controversial documentary, which premiered in Dublin this week, about his relationship with Nepalese boys.
He also says suggestions that he coerced or preyed on young men are untrue and distasteful.
Speaking in the Dáil this afternoon Mary Hanafin said the issue of whether or not Cathal O Searcaigh's poems should be included on the Leaving Cert will be addressed by the NCCA
Yesterday Minister Hanafin said she was shocked and appalled by the accusations surrounding the poet.
O Searcaigh has pleaded to support the people of Nepal by establishing a trust to administer whatever funds he can provide in the future.
