Opposition leaders criticise overnight abortion debate in Dáil
Opposition leaders have criticised last night's overnight abortion debate as a shambles.
The Dáil sat until 5am this morning to debate the Protection of Life during Pregnancy Bill - and only managed to vote on two amendments.
Junior Minister Lucinda Creighton voted with the coalition - but is expected to revolt at a later stage - the debate resumes at 4pm this afternoon.
Labour said that Michael McNamara's vote for abortion in the case of fatal foetal abnormalities was a mistake - which will not have consequences.
Speaking as the Dáil was adjourned at 5am, Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams appealed to the Taoiseach to implement reform as promised.
"I have no problem being here my family are in Belfast it doesn't matter to me but there are staff here and Teachta Dála here, and this isn’t the way to business,"
"I just ask the Taoiseach to honour the commitment he gave to reform this house, to reform this Dáil and to work properly."
