One in 10 plan to drop health cover as 20% price hike expected

Nearly 90% of people have said they will shop around for a better deal on their health insurance as prices are expected to continue to rise.

A new survey also found that 11% of people have said they will drop their cover entirely because of the price hikes. The survey by Cornmarket Health Division predicts further price increases of at least 15%-20%.

The findings also show that about 60% of those who switched plans last year saved between €250 and €1,000 on their health cover.

Insurance expert Dermot Goode of the Cornmarket Health Division said rising costs were partly being driven by additional costs being imposed on insurers.
