Oireachtas proposal would see no bottle of wine sold below €10
A report due from the Oireachtas Health Committee will urge the Government to set the minimum price for a unit of alcohol.
A price of €1.10 per unit is the upper limit of what is currently being considered.
It could see the minimum price for a bottle of wine set at €10.
Alcohol and tobacco prices are already higher here than anywhere else in the EU,

Consultant endocrinologist, Professor Donal O'Shea, said that the measure should be introduced to protect public health.
“Ireland has taken the lead in public health measures before, smoking being the best example, and minimum unit price will affect alcohol consumption in Ireland and it will stop the really-low-rice selling that, in particular, supermarkets do,” he said.
