Oireachtas committee calls for ban on vending machines selling junk food in schools

Vending machines which sell unhealthy food in schools should be banned, according to the Oireachtas Education Committee.

The suggestion has been made in a new report which aims to tackle the issue of obesity in schools.

The report also suggests unhealthy snacks should not be made available for sale in school canteens.

It is calling on schools to teach children cookery skills from a young age in a bid to help them lead healthier lifestyles long-term.
