US President Barack Obama is now on his way to meet with his distant relatives in Moneygall in Co Offaly.
Moneygall is a sort of homecoming for President Obama and the visit can be seen as the fun part of his four-nation European tour.
It was here in Offaly that his great great great great grandfather Joseph Kearney worked as a shoemaker before the family left for New York in 1850.
The US President's Irish roots were traced to the village by an American genealogist in 2007.
Stars and Stripes fly alongside the tricolour in Moneygall and the village has had a revamp for this momentous visit.
Earlier President Obama spoke of the bloodlink between the two countries and while security is tight around 3 thousand people will be here to extend a heartfelt welcome.
