Ó Snodaigh claims campaign against Adams in the wake of Maíria Cahill rape row
Sinn Féin's Social Protection spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh claims there has been a long standing campaign against his party's leader and the recent controversy surrounding Maíria Cahill may be part of it.
Ms Cahill claims the IRA covered up and failed to report her alleged rape and sexual assault by a leading republican.
The Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams has denied Ms Cahill named her rapist during any meeting she had with him and he also said she didn't speak with him about the alleged sexual assault.
Ó Snodaigh is calling on anyone who has information regarding Maria Cahill's case to come forward and speak with the relevant authorities.
“There has been quite a long campaign against Gerry Adams, I don’t know if this (the claims) are part of that of it,” said Ó Snodaigh.
“We shouldn’t run away from the fact that this is a case of sexual abuse.
“Those who have the information on Maíria Cahill’s case should go to the PSNI rather then using issues like that to score political points against Gerry Adams,” added Ó Snodaigh.
