Number of houses available for sale in Dublin has risen by 32%

New figures from property website MyHome.ie shows that there has been a dramatic rise in the number of houses available for sale in Dublin.

There are currently 5,083 houses on sale in the capital, a rise of 32% on the 3,860 which were on the market this time last year.

Angela Keegan Managing Director of MyHome.ie said the rise in stock in Dublin was most welcome.

She said: “As we all know the shortage of houses is most acute in our capital so it is very encouraging to see more houses coming on the market. Clearly rising prices have encouraged more homeowners to put their properties up for sale.”

The main increases of between 45% to 50% were in Dublin 13, 5, 1, 7, 22, 24, 4 and 6 while the smallest increases were in Dublin 11 and 3. The increase in stock has largely been confined to Dublin with the number of homes available outside the capital remaining largely unchanged.

Ms Keegan was speaking at the launch of several new features on Myhome which will enable users to check local transport links, the location of the nearest schools as well as nearby amenities on MyHome.ie.

These additional search tools are available on both the desktop and mobile sites and are located beside the description of every property.

Ms Keegan said the latest move was aimed at providing house hunters with the most complete information possible.

When people are looking at potential new homes three of the most important things they are interested in are transport links, local schools and local amenities.

"Now visitors to MyHome will be able to access a handy map which will show them exactly where the nearest LUAS or bus stop is, where the nearest primary or secondary schools are as well as information on everything from ATMs to cafes to local bars” she said.
