Doubts continue today regarding Senator David Norris's chances of running for President as some of his supporters consider their positions.

Another controversy surrounding the Senator has begun recently, centring around his support of his former partner Ezra Yizhak, who was convicted of the statutory rape of a 15-year-old Palestinian boy.

Senator Norris wrote to Israeli authorities on Seanad-headed paper, appealing for his clemency, in 1997.

Waterford TD John Halligan, Donegal South West TD Thomas Pringle and Dublin North Central TD Finian McGrath have all stated that, in light of the recent revelations, they will consult their supporters before confirming their support.

Senator John Crown, Independent Wexford TD Mick Wallace, Trinity College Senator Seán Barrett, Dublin Central TD Maureen O’Sullivan and Wicklow TD Stephen Donnelly have reiterated their commitment to support Senator Norris’ nomination, however.
