Finance Minister Michael Noonan said today that the leaking of a report on the Irish economy to the German parliament is a matter of concern to the Government.

The European Commission document, warning that further fiscal tightening could be required in Ireland this year, was circulated to a Bundestag committee yesterday.

The Commission said that it is also deeply concerned about the matter - the second such incident in recent months.

Minister Noonan said that the issue of a mini-budget does not arise, and he has written to the EU Economics Commissioner Olli Rehn seeking a review of procedures.

"The European Commission, when they provide information on a confidential basis, should ensure that there procedures are sufficient to ensure confidentiality," he said.

"I have written to Commissioner Rehn expressing the concern of the Irish Government and asking that he would review their practices and procedures to ensure confidentiality in future."
