No decision on water charges this week due to Government split

The Taoiseach and Tanaiste have signalled that a decision on water charges may not be reached this week.

Enda Kenny and Eamon Gilmore were speaking at the opening of a local enterprise office in Mullingar, County Westmeath this morning.

“I know the media always like to have exact times, I think we have a reasonability to get this right,” said Kenny.

“There are venerable sections out there, elderly people living on their own - people who have medical circumstances that might require much more then average usage of water – we’re very conscious of these things.

“There are the details we are working out and as the Tánaiste said we hope to conclude the matter shortly.”
