The government has said that no decision has been taken on whether to grant temporary release to Catherine Nevin, who is serving a life sentence for the murder of her husband Tom Nevin in 1996.
In a statement, the department of Justice said that the recommendations have been made to it concerning Nevin's attendance on an educational course, but the Minister for Justice has made no decision yet.
The department of Justice has tonight clarified that a life sentenced prisoner is eligible for review by the Parole Board after serving 7 years in custody.
However, each case is considered on its individual merits and conditions including the nature and gravity of the offence are taken into account before making a recommendation to the Minister who then has the final decision.
