New system to give motorists three chances to pay penalty point fines

Motorists are set to be given a third chance to pay their penalty points fine to avoid being brought before the courts.

Under the current system, drivers have 28 days to pay their initial €80 fine.

They also receive a further 28 days to pay an increased fine of €120.

However, if they fail to pay the second notice, they will be brought before the courts.

According to reports in the Sunday Business Post, under a new system due to be introduced this year, motorists will be given a third chance of paying their fine before going to court.
