New regulations account for rise in planning applications

There has been a 19% increase in the number of planning applications being lodged, and a 66% rise in project commencements.

Latest figures from the National Housing Construction Index, show more than half of all counties recorded an increase in the number of planning applications being made since last year.

However, in the last six months there has been almost a 50% drop in the rate of growth.

A rush to get residential construction projects started before new building regulations kicked in on March 1 is being billed as the main factor for this.

The figures also show that every county, with the exception of Roscommon, has recorded an increase in the number of commencements in residential building projects since last year.
