The Communications Minister Alex White has defended the new national postcode system as accurate, despite a number of complaints.
Members of the public have been pointing out problems with the €27m Eircode service, including its location of Shannon Airport in Co Limerick instead of in Co Clare.
The new service is optional and will not replace any existing lines of addresses. Eircode said 2.2 million individual numbers will be posted to properties in the coming days.
The Freight Transport Association of Ireland said that the system is already out-dated because the codes cannot be searched on SatNavs or Google Maps.
Dublin City codes start with D - so Dublin 4 becomes D04 - Cork City is given the letter T and Galway - H.
Every house will be mailed their code in the coming two weeks - or residents can find it now on eircode.ie.
Minister Alex White said the system was efficient despite early concerns.
He said: "Sure, we'll have a few days where we'll have to address people's concern, but nobody is being moved from one townland to another…(People) are getting an extra dimension to their address…It's not changing your address."
What a feckup, Shannon Airport is not in Limerick & all of Clare is now Galway or Limerick totally insulting #upthebanner #eircode

I don't appear to exist in the #Eircode system. Presumably this means I'll get my property tax refunded.

I was actually quite excited to get my #eircode. But it has me in the wrong county, which seems like it could be an issue.
