A new poll published today suggests the upcoming abortion referendum could be defeated.

The survey of more than 1000 adults shows that just one in five voters back a total ban.

Some 12% say it should be available ‘without restriction’.

The results show that there is now strong support for abortion in a variety of circumstances.

According to the poll, 44% of people back the Supreme Court’s decision in the X case also.

It allowed a teenage girl to travel to England for a termination because there was a risk of her committing suicide.
