A new set of quality standards for nursing homes across the country is due to be launched by the Health Information and Quality Authority this morning.

The rules will set out minimum standards of care and inspection at all public and private residential homes for older people.

Age Action Ireland is welcoming the move, but says the Government must ensure that the standards are enforced.

It also says that nursing home staff must be properly trained and supervised in tandem with the introduction of the new standards.
