New Court of Appeal not the solution says constitutional lawyer
A constitutional lawyer said that a new Court of Appeal is not the solution to the backlog of appeals waiting to be heard by the Supreme Court.
Voters will have their say on Friday when they are asked in a referendum on whether a new Court of Appeal should be established.
The government argues that a new court between The High Court and The Supreme Court will help to alleviate the massive number of cases brought to Ireland's highest court.
Paul Anthony McDermott said a new court will not solve the problem.
"The more layers you introduce in a system and the more courts you have and the more judges you have, the more court cases there will be, the more delays there will be," he said.
"This isn't going to solve the problem is that Irish people have a litigious for all that people moan about legal fees and delays
"The reason they exist is because Irish people sometimes cannot solve their problems without a long court case."
