Murdered man's family to appeal for information

The family of a young man beaten to death by a masked gang will attend a public meeting tonight to encourage people with information on the killing to come forward.

The family of a young man beaten to death by a masked gang will attend a public meeting tonight to encourage people with information on the killing to come forward.

Paul Quinn, 21, from Co Armagh was lured over the border, battered and left for dead in a shed last October.

His family maintain he was killed by the IRA because of a personal feud with one of its members and have rejected claims by senior Sinn Féin figures that the incident was linked to fuel smuggling.

The meeting, organised by the Quinn Support Group, will take place in the Glencairn Hotel, Castleblayney in Co Monaghan, at 8pm.

Chairman Jim McAllister said: "The meeting will discuss new campaign directions now that the Irish and British governments have made clear their views that Paul Quinn was not a criminal and that the involvement of the Provisional IRA in the murder is an important line of police inquiry.

"Now that an important element of truth has been firmly established, there should be an increased focus on the attainment of justice through the Garda investigation.

"The meeting will again encourage people to come forward with information which can be turned into evidence, not only in regard to Paul's murder, but also on other beatings and incidents which the investigating officers believe may throw light on how it was planned and executed."
