Some 768 households had their electricity cut off for non-payment of bills in November, according to figures released this morning by the Commission for Energy Regulation.

A total 202 homes had their gas disconnected, according to the regulator.

However, the body said that, based on anecdotal evidence from suppliers, a significant number of

disconnected properties are in fact vacant.

It has been previously estimated that in 2013, 40% of disconnected electricity sites and 36% of gas sites were deemed to be vacant.
