The number of people waiting for beds at hospitals around the country has climbed to just over 600, according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

The number of people waiting for beds at hospitals around the country has climbed to just over 600, according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

The INMO's Trolley and Ward watch has recorded 601 people nationwide waiting for hospital beds, with 438 on trolleys and 163 in overflow wards.

University Hospital Limerick has the largest number waiting, 51, while Cork University Hospital has 45 patients in the queue.

Both Tallaght Hospital and Letterkenny General have 33 people awaiting beds.
