Campaigners against the downgrading of Monaghan General Hospital are planning to mount a protest outside the Dáil today.

Campaigners against the downgrading of Monaghan General Hospital are planning to mount a protest outside the Dáil today.

The demonstration is designed to express local anger at plans to transfer the 24-hour A&E service in Monaghan to Cavan General Hospital.

A number of independent reports have recommended the move, but it has been resisted by local residents for the past number of years.

The organisers of today's protest say they expect up to 5,000 people to attend.
