Molly Martens and father to plead not guilty to charges of killing Jason Corbett

The American wife of Limerick man Jason Corbett and her father are to plead not guilty to charges against them.

31-year-old Molly Martens and 65-year-old Thomas Martens have each been charged with second degree murder and voluntary manslaughter.

Mr Corbett was pronounced dead at the family home in North Carolina last August.

In a prepared statement Thomas Martens' brother-in-law and Molly's uncle Mike Earnest has confirmed they will be pleading not guilty.

“The actions of self-defence that Tom and Molly took on the morning of August 2nd were completely necessary and justified,” said Earnest.

“Since the 911 call Tom made that morning both, Tom and Molly, have cooperated fully with the investigation and made themselves available every step of the way.”

“They will both enter pleas of not guilty and once the events of August 2nd are presented they will be exonerated.”
