A group of people opposed to mobile phone masts has mounted a protest outside the Dáil.

The Irish Electromagnetic Radiation Victims' Association claims that such masts pose an unacceptable health risk to the public.

Helen McCrory, a member of the group, who lives within 100 yards of a mast, said she had been suffering major health effects because of the structure.

She said she was suffering insomnia, burning sensations, trembling and weak muscles and that the symptoms ebbed and flowed depending on her proximity to the mast.

She said her doctor had put her illness down to radiation emitted by the mast.
