Minister to brief Dáil committee on national broadband strategy

Minister for Communications Pat Rabbitte will appear before an Oireachtas committee later to outline the progress made regarding plans to roll out the national broadband strategy.

Minister Rabbitte will brief the members of the Communications Committee on the 'National Broadband Plan for Ireland'.

The strategy is committed to making high speed quality broadband available across the country in the lifetime of the current government.

"Minister Rabbitte will be before our committee this morning to outline the plans and the up-to-date progress on the plans to roll out high-speed broadband to the four corners of the country," said Fine Gael's John O’Mahony, chairman of the committee.

"Large urban areas and cities are reasonably well-catered for at the minute but there are many black spots around the country.

"It will be important that those black spots are eliminated."
